Chapter 1: Historiography- Development in the west  

This chapter explains the writing of critical historical narratives i.e. Historiography. lettering style, Authors style of writing, manufacturing date as well as type of paper & stamps of authority are t=he criteria used for document authentication. Further you will learn that modern historiography is based on Scientific principles, Answers supported by reliable evidence & graph of mankind’s journey. Later the books written by various authors & philosophers are mentioned. 

Chapter 2: Historiography- Indian Tradition

In this chapter you will learn the various historical evidences and documents under Indian history. Earlier inscriptions were used in Harappan seals, Ashoka’s period rocks, stone and pillars and later on began to occur on coins, metal images or copper plates and sculptures. Various biographies and autobiopic on personalities were written during this era. Not only this but The History of British India & The History of India was also published during this era. 

Chapter 3: Applied History

Applied (Public) History is the field of study concerned with application of history for the benefit of people in the contemporary and future times. Fields of research in Applied History includes Philosophy, Science, Technology, Industry and Commerce, Management Studies, Arts and Humanities. It is further explained that our identity and origin – Necessity to preserve and conserve our culture as well as  heritage. Natural Heritage – like Flora, Fauna, Ecology and Geomorphic characteristics and UNESCO’s World Heritage list includes – Western Ghats (Kaas plateau in Satara.) needs preservation and conservation under specific bodies created. 

Chapter 4 History of Indian Arts

Art is a human instinct to share experience, wisdom and emotions through a beautiful creation. There are two types of Artistic creations i.e. Visual Arts (Drik Kala) & Performing Arts (Lalit or Aangik Kala). Further, there are two distinct traditions in Art – Folk and Classical. later various styles of paintings were introduced namely 

  • Maratha style of paintings
  • Two dimensional painting – e.g. sketches or paintings of nature, objects & individuals
  • Mural painting of Bodhisattva – Ajanta Caves
  • Rock-painting sites in India – Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. 
  • Folk style paintings like Warli, Pingul. The Art of painting is described in ancient Indian texts – Alekhyam or Alekhya Vidya. 
  • Later the various art schools and types of architecture  as well as features along with the fields of applied art are explained. 

Chapter 5 Mass Media and History

In this chapter you will learn the various modes of communication. In earlier times, Newspapers were considered as the first class medium of circulating information. Newspapers aimed at creating social awareness. Digdarshan is the first monthly magazine in Marathi. Furthermore, various Broadcast means are discussed that acted as a medium to exchange information.

Chapter 7 Sports and History

In this Chapter, you will understand the evolution of sports in history. There are various games mentioned in Indian literature and epics like dice (dyut) wrestling, horse chariot, races & chess.  Not only this, but the qualities required to be a good sports person like courage, determination, sportsmanship, Skills you learn from playing games – readiness to cooperate, teamspirit, leadership are specified. The outdoor games are categorised into two types – Indian sports and International sports. Popular Indian games include marbles, Lagori, Gilli-Danda, Bhingari, Phugadi, Zimma and Bhovare. Chapter 8 Tourism and History

This chapter basically focuses on how tourism evolved over the period of time and how travelers discovered new places. Desire of these people to visit places promoted tourism during that era. Furthermore, the Tourism industry flourished in various aspects right from health tourism, agro tourism to Development of Tourism Corporation all over the world. Last but not the least, various steps taken to preserve Heritage Sites in India and other parts of the world were given importance. 

Chapter 9 Heritage Management

This chapter consists of various sources of history and the necessary training required for the oral sources, written sources as well as Material Sources. Moving ahead, various museums were built right from the Louvre Museum in France(18th Century Paris) to Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum (1998, Mumbai). Apart from this,the evolution of various Libraries as well as Encyclopaedias from time to time are explained.

Political Science Chapter Wise Summary:

Chapter 1: Working of the Constitution

In this chapter you will learn that the Constitution came into force – 26th January 1950. Various Objectives of the Indian constitution like establishing a secular democratic republic as well as ensuring justice and freedom of its citizens are explained. Furthermore, various indicators of India’s successful democracy to Decentralisation of democracy is something you will learn in detail. Don’t forget the Right to Information ensures transparency and accountability in governance. Towards the end, Protection of Minorities on the basis of equality, freedom, right against exploitation, cultural and educational rights are explained. Chapter 3: Political Parties

Political Parties are the link that connects common people, democracy, representation and elections. Moreover, the Political Parties evolved from One Party System to Two Party System and then Multi – Party System to Regional Parties from time to time which gave rise to various Political Parties in India.

Chapter 4: Social and Political Movements

In this chapter, you will learn the various movements & its features like Tribal movement, Farmers movements against British. As you proceed, you will learn Women’s Movements, Consumer Protection Movement, Trade Union Movement. Furthermore, Consumer problems like  Adulteration, increased cost of items, fraud in weights and measures are addressed. Various reforms to solve the Women and Environment related problems is something you should definitely study. 

Chapter 5: Challenges faced by Indian Democracy 

In India, democracy appears in the form of voting, elections, Government structures, judiciary etc. above all values to be followed ensures that the democracy is deep rooted. Moving ahead,you will learn the various challenges faced by Indian Democracy and steps taken to solve them. And lastly, 50% seat reservation for women in the local self governing institutions will increase their political participation.
